Our Nation
Which rules the earth,
Great is her name.
Let her kingdom come
Her will be done
On earth
As the will of heaven.
Give us always
Our American Dream
And excuse our excesses
As we pursue our enemies.
Lead us not into tyranny
But deliver us from economic depression
For ours is the victory
And the power
And the glory
Forever.
Does the prayer of our Lord only reach as far as a church wall, or does His mind rule within us in our affairs? Which master do we serve and trust? Let the world follow their beasts of power and might. Let those who trust in the Lord seek His face.
Wow, that’s amazing. Yes, let us trust in the Lord and seek His face.
As a political enthusiast from childhood, I so identify with this. When our politics cause us to react with fear and hostility to our national adversaries rather than with an overwhelming burden to share the gospel, we have crossed into the belly of the beast. When we trust our political party to care for those in need, for whom we, ourselves, should be caring, we are administering a polluted help. Jesus never mentioned the Roman Empire to us (except to follow the law and to “render”). We pray God will lead us in our voting privilege. But He alone changes hearts – from where all national problems begin.
Voting is a privilege which I cannot in good conscience exercise at this point in American history.
